The grid grows. So does the appetite for your bankroll.
Ultimate Fire Link Strategy: Fireball Rows and Unlocking the Grid

The short answer
Ultimate Fire Link is Light & Wonder's answer to Aristocrat's Link games: land fireballs to trigger Hold & Spin on an expanding grid — unlock symbols open extra rows, and filling positions awards jackpots. It's deliberately more volatile than the Link competition. Strategy: bigger survival budget per feature chase.
In this article
Ultimate Fire Link is the Hold & Spin format turned up: instead of a fixed 3x5 window, the feature plays on an expanding grid — land unlock symbols, open new rows, chase a bigger fill. It's Light & Wonder's counter to Lightning/Dragon Link, and it plays meaner: the bigger potential grid means bigger advertised outcomes and longer dry stretches paying for them. If Link games are volatile, this is volatile with the dial turned right.
The expanding grid, explained
Trigger the feature with fireballs and you get the standard three respins, resetting on each new symbol. The twist: unlock symbols open additional rows above the base grid, expanding the field where new fireballs can land and increasing the potential total. Fill positions for Mini/Minor/Major/Grand. The design is honest about its trade — more ceiling, more variance. Sessions will feel 'deader' between features than on Link titles because proportionally more of the return is stacked into rarer, bigger feature outcomes.
- Budget deeper than for Link games. If Lightning Link wants a 150-spin buffer, Ultimate Fire Link wants 200+. The feature distribution is tuned spikier; a budget that survives a Lightning session can die before this one's first feature.
- Unlocks are the multiplier, not the orbs. Two similar fills can pay wildly differently depending on how many rows opened — the unlock symbols are doing more work than any individual fireball value.
- Progressive tiers are denom-scaled. As with all these games, higher denominations seed bigger progressives and usually carry a touch better theoretical return — at proportionally higher cost per spin.
- The 'row opened' animation isn't a signal. Watching a row unlock feels like momentum; it's predetermined outcome being presented. The total is fixed at trigger; the show is for your benefit.
- Fireball near-misses mean nothing. Four or five fireballs on a dead spin is the game's built-in tease — the trigger probability next spin is unchanged.
Fire Link vs Lightning Link: pick your poison
Both families do the same job — frequent tease, occasional feature, rare blowout — with different curves. Lightning Link spreads return across more, smaller features; Ultimate Fire Link concentrates it in rarer, larger ones. If you want more feature triggers per hour, play Link. If you want the bigger ceiling and can fund the droughts, play Fire. The edge neither gives you: control over which outcome the RNG picked.
