The short answer

Gonzo's Quest Megaways pairs the classic avalanche mechanic with up to 117,649 ways: every cascade in a sequence steps the multiplier up a ladder (2x, 3x, 5x in the base game; 3x, 6x, 9x, 15x in free falls). Unbreakable wilds persist through avalanches. It's medium-high volatility — more forgiving than the Hacksaw tier — and the strategy is standard: survive the ladder resets.

Red Tiger's Megaways version of Gonzo's Quest keeps the 2011 original's core loop — symbols crumble, new ones avalanche in, and each consecutive avalanche steps the win multiplier up a visible ladder — and stretches it across six variable reels. The result is the most readable volatility in the catalog: you can literally watch the multiplier climb.

The multiplier ladder

In the base game each consecutive avalanche in one paid sequence multiplies the next win: 1x, 2x, 3x, then 5x. In Free Falls (3+ golden symbols) the ladder stretches to 3x, 6x, 9x and 15x — a fourth or fifth consecutive avalanche inside the feature is where the 21,000x max win lives. The ladder resets at the start of every paid spin; it never carries over.

  • Unbreakable wilds don't crumble when part of a win — they stay for the next avalanche, which is what makes deep ladder runs possible.
  • Earthquake feature (random) destroys all low-pay symbols for the next drop — a rare assist, not a signal.
  • Two wilds maximum can exist per spin — one on the left three reels, one on the right three.

Session expectations

Compared with the Money Train/Dead or Alive tier, Gonzo's Megaways is a moderate burn — base-game cascades return small wins often enough to keep a session alive. Free Falls frequency sits in the usual 150-300 spin range. A $30-50 roll at $0.10-0.20 is a functional session; this is one of the few high-variance games where you can watch your budget breathe.

The original Gonzo's Quest (5x3, 20 lines) teaches the same avalanche lesson at gentler stakes; the Megaways version just gives the ladder more rooms to climb through.
